Mother’s Day Offering
Mother’s Day serves as an opportunity to remember and honor special women who have loved and cared for us.
Many of the older adults living at Wesley Woods are women who sacrificed in order for their loved ones to have the brightest futures possible. However, some may now have the gift of a long life but have outlived their finances. Others are overwhelmed by medical bills or need higher levels of care to keep their quality of life and just need caring people to help bridge the financial gap.
Wesley Woods is grateful for its longstanding relationship with The North Georgia Conference of The United Methodist Church and particularly the annual Mother’s Day Offering collected through its churches each year. Because of caring United Methodists, these vulnerable seniors can stay in their Wesley Woods homes, no matter what challenges they face.
Carolyn and Joan (pictured above) are two Wesley Woods residents who directly benefit from this special offering. Carolyn suffered a bad fall while teaching and was forced to retire much earlier than she planned. Joan, a widow of 16 years, never dreamed she would live until her 90’s and has now outlived her financial resources.
Carolyn and Joan are not alone. The need for older adults to live in safety and independence increases each year as Georgia has the fastest growing older adult population in the country. In fact, by 2035, the number of older adults in the U.S. will be greater than the number of children. This means more people will need access to the quality care, life-enriching activities, and age-specific wellness programs found at Wesley Woods.
Furthermore, while Wesley Woods is an elder care ministry of the North Georgia Conference, and one of our communities is located on the Emory University campus, many people are surprised to learn that we are not funded in the budget of either source. In fact, the older adults we serve rely on the generosity of caring individuals and churches to age with grace, dignity and purpose.
We hope you will prayerfully consider carrying out the ministry of Wesley Woods that God has put before us by using the materials below and taking the offering on or near Mother’s Day (May 13, 2018). By doing so, you are providing a home, peace of mind, and a community of love for older adults who might otherwise be facing homelessness.
Please donate through the Mother’s Day Offering envelopes that are mailed directly to local Methodist churches, mail a check to the address below, or submit a gift online here.
