Recognizing his commitment to helping older adults, the leaders of the Foundation of Wesley Woods recently presented the Malone Dodson Clergy Award to the Rev. Dr. Glenn Ethridge, senior pastor of Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur.

Since 1998, the Malone Dodson Clergy Award has been given annually by the Foundation of Wesley Woods to the clergy person of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church (NGUMC) who best exemplifies visionary and committed leadership with respect to older adults.

Dr. Ethridge was presented with the award in recognition of his leadership in connecting his congregation and peers with the importance of the Wesley Woods elder care ministry as well as supporting the benevolence care needs of the residents and families served by Wesley Woods.

Under Dr. Ethridge’s leadership, Oak Grove UMC has exhibited significant growth in its Mother’s Day Offering and is consistently one of the most generous in its participation and total offering. The offering is collected each year on Mother’s Day by many of the 900 churches of the NGUMC. Next year’s offering will be collected on Sunday, May 14, 2017.

“Dr. Ethridge and the members of Oak Grove UMC are living examples of how several can come together as one to improve the lives of many,” said Tracy Crump, President & CEO of the Foundation of Wesley Woods. “We appreciate all of their work and recognition of the importance of supporting our benevolence care programs that help so many individuals living at Wesley Woods who have outlived their financial resources.”

“At Oak Grove United Methodist Church, we work towards creating life changing communities through Jesus Christ,” said Dr. Ethridge, senior pastor of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. “It truly is an honor to be recognized by Wesley Woods for the work our congregation is doing to impact the lives of people right here in our community.”

Dr. Ethridge has had a long-term commitment to the work of the Foundation of Wesley Woods. He currently serves as vice chair of the board and is the former chair of the Church Partnerships and Stewardship Committee, as well as spokesperson for the ministry.
