Recognizing her commitment to helping older adults, the leaders of the Foundation of Wesley Woods recently presented the Malone Dodson Clergy Award to the Rev. Dr. Alice Rogers, senior pastor of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church in Atlanta.

Since 1998, the Malone Dodson Clergy Award has been given annually by the Foundation of Wesley Woods to the clergy person of The North Georgia Conference of The United Methodist Church (NGUMC) who best exemplifies visionary and committed leadership with respect to older adults.

Dr. Rogers was presented with the award in recognition of her passion and leadership in connecting her congregation with the senior adults living at Branan Towers. This Wesley Woods community is HUD-subsidized and serves very low-income seniors in East Atlanta, most of whom are living below the poverty line.

Under Dr. Roger’s leadership, Glenn Memorial UMC enriches the lives of older adults in a variety of ways. “Dr. Rogers and Glenn Memorial truly have unlimited compassion and love for our elder community,” said Tracy Crump, President & CEO of the Foundation of Wesley Woods. “If there is ever a need at Branan Towers, we can count on Glenn Memorial to help. Whether it’s furnishing apartments for previously homeless seniors moving into the community, or donating Christmas gifts to residents who wouldn’t have one otherwise, they are continuously supporting the needs of older adults.”

In addition, Glenn Memorial UMC has shown significant growth in its Mother’s Day Offering, which is collected each year for Mother’s Day by many of the 900 churches of the NGUMC. Next year’s offering will be collected on Sunday, May 13, 2018.

“It is so important to me to serve a congregation like Glenn Memorial UMC that values seniors and sees them as a critical generation to learn from, no matter what phase of life we’re in. The ministries of Glenn Memorial seek to be inter-generational at all levels as witnessed in our support of the mission of Wesley Woods,” said Dr. Rogers, senior pastor of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. “It truly is an honor to be recognized by Wesley Woods for the work our congregation is doing to impact the lives of people who deserve all the love and care in the world.”

Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church is located at 1660 N Decatur Rd., Atlanta, GA 30307 and can be located online at
